WHAT YOU'LL DO
Middle Office is an independent control department that ensures the integrity of trading positions and accuracy of P&L reporting. This role will lead and execute middle office functions in India and be part of collaborative team responsible for validating positions, valuations, P&L reporting, and managing settlement functions daily.
Middle Office function requires a strong understanding of financial instruments including their settlement and clearing processes, trading strategies as well as accounting concepts. Middle Office works closely with Risk, Finance, Trading, and IT developers, and supports ad hoc projects and new business initiatives. The essence of this role requires:
- Setting up Optiver India’s Middle Office function to support business activities in Equity Derivatives, Currency Derivatives, Equity Cash Segments (and subsequently for Commodities Derivatives segment)
- Execution, reporting and explaining of daily P&L in-line with Product Control policy
- Validation and ownership of the trading balance sheet and positions in-line with Product Control policy
- Ensuring Trades, positions and cash balances are correctly reconciled against Clearers on daily basis and investigation and remedy of breaks, if any
- Understanding of key risks faced by Middle Office and the control framework around managing/mitigating these risks
- Monthly P&L accounting close in GL system
- Working on projects with IT team for reconciliation system development and procedure improvement to enhance team’s work efficiency and effectiveness
- Responsible for setup of controls for new business initiatives, ongoing maintenance, and development and improvement thereafter as required
- Supporting trading team with ad hoc requests and financial analysis
- Establishing & managing processes for day-to-day settlement activities i.e., settlement of funds/securities with clearing member / stock exchanges / clearing corporation
- Establishing & managing processes for Regulatory reporting and Co-ordinating periodic regulatory audits
- Co-ordinating yearly statutory audits (including ICFR audits) to demonstrate existence and effectiveness of key controls in trade life cycle
WHO YOU ARE
- 12+ years of experience in managing Middle Office, Product control or similar function with reputed trading firm, bank, or investment bank
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to handle data efficiently (excellent Excel skills; experience of VBA, Python, SQL would be a plus)
- An understanding of financial markets, derivative products, control function and accounting concepts
- A pro-active, results-driven attitude
- Bachelor’s degree in finance / commerce; CA, MBA or other equivalent qualification
- Experience in managing small teams to meet deliverables in a high performing environment
- Strong attention to details with experience in operational activities
- Actively collaborate with regional APAC MO teams to learn/support/manage MO functions
