Optiver Foundation Annual Report 2023: Creating Meaningful Impact

The Optiver Foundation is proud to present its 2023 Annual Report, showcasing its dedication to fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing diversity through the power of science, technology, and education. This year, the Foundation has achieved significant milestones in its efforts to create a lasting, positive impact.

Environmental Action

In collaboration with Land Life, the Optiver Foundation planted an estimated 300,000 trees in Spain and Canada. Along with the initial project in Moolagundi, Australia, these three combined reforestation initiatives are predicted to capture around 112,000 tonnes of CO2, successfully completing the Foundation’s work with the tech-driven land restoration organisation.

“We would like to thank Land Life for their dedication to mitigating climate change and their work on our first-ever partnership. The conclusion of our partnership with Land Life is not an end but a gateway to new initiatives aimed at furthering our environmental stewardship.” Said Charles Lui, Optiver Foundation Chairman of the Board

Promoting Diversity through STEM Education for Women

In line with Optiver’s aim to increase the representation of women in the finance and technology sectors, the Foundation’s partnership with Women Win achieved a significant milestone. The FREE STEM Fund received over 1,000 submissions for grant applications and shortlisted 340 promising candidates. From this pool, 27 grantees from 23 countries were selected to receive funding, setting the stage for the fund’s impact on narrowing the gender gap in STEM across regions in the global south.

Optiver Foundation Scholarship Programme

After announcing its partnership with the University of Oxford, the Foundation launched an international scholarship programme, supporting women from low to middle-income countries pursuing postgraduate STEM degrees. The scholarship covers course fees, living costs, and provides mentorship. Additionally, the programme fosters a vibrant community of scholars, encouraging collaboration and mutual support among women in STEM. The first cohort of scholars, hailing from diverse backgrounds, has begun their studies at Oxford, delving into fields such as mathematical and theoretical physics, computer science, and energy systems.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the Optiver Foundation is excited to build on the momentum of this year’s successes. The Foundation is actively seeking new partnerships and projects in the environmental space, eager to expand its impact and drive further positive change. As the second cohort of scholars is welcomed this autumn, the Foundation remains committed to fostering a supportive community for women in STEM and looks forward to the continued growth and achievements of its grant recipients and scholars.

The Optiver Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to all partners for their unwavering commitment and collaboration. Together, these efforts are creating a brighter, more sustainable, and inclusive future.
